| Background & Biography
The Day Laborer Research Institute began as a graduate student research project at UCLA to examine why large numbers of day laborers refused to participate in day laborer programs. Until this research, information on day laborers that local government, police departments, and non-profit organizations used to design programs and shape policy was largely anecdotal.
At the Day Laborer Research Institute, we are police officers experienced in day labor and community policing solutions, Latino and Latin American Indian day laborers who are activists and organizers, researchers and organizers with strong union backgrounds and years of experience with undocumented workers, and lawyers experienced with day labor law and day laborer rights.
